About the Directorate
The Erbil Irrigation Directorate is a government institution under the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of the Kurdistan Regional Government. Its core mandate is the management and protection of water resources, delivering irrigation water to agricultural land, and mitigating the effects of drought and flooding.
Core responsibilities
—Cleaning and rehabilitating irrigation canals and channels across the governorate
—Building and maintaining ponds and clay dams for water storage
—Flood-risk prevention and emergency-response readiness
—Training engineers in GIS and dam design
—Cooperation with international organizations on water management
